The study was conducted by Dr Emma Stevenson, Lecturer in Sport and Exercise Nutrition at Northumbria University. A number of athletes exercised to exhaustion and then rested for a period with different drinks (MARS Refuel™ drink, an isotonic drink and a specialised protein drink). They then resumed exercise . Those who had drunk MARS Refuel™ could keep going 50% longer than those who had used the isotonic drink, and 40% longer than those using the protein drink.

Dr Emma Stevenson reported "Our study indicates that consuming MARS Refuel™  drink during a short recovery period significantly improves subsequent endurance capacity”
