Mars® Refuel Keep Paralympic Hopeful Fired Up For The Slopes

Mars® Refuel is delighted to announce its sponsorship of Tim Farr, a paraplegic athlete with hopes of qualifying for the 2010 Winter Paralympics in Vancouver.

Tim, 23, broke his back during a ski jumping accident in Les Deux Alps in March 2004. After two weeks in Grenoble Hospital in France, he was moved to Stoke Mandeville, Oxfordshire, where he remained for four months, managing to finish his degree at Exeter University with a 2:1 Hons despite missing months of lectures.

A keen skier since the age of 7, Tim was adamant that he would return to the sport he loves so much. With strong determination and will power, Tim hit the slopes just eleven months later with the help and support of the Back-Up Trust, and is now harbouring ambitions of competing at the 2010 Paralympics.

Tim is thrilled with the support of Mars® Refuel, “When Mars® Refuel first approached me I couldn’t believe it. To have the support of such a widely recognised brand was a dream come true.

“I can’t wait to don the new ski-wear Mars® Refuel has provided for me and get the racing underway. Skiing is something I feel extremely passionate about, and I just want to keep pushing myself to the best of my ability, continue competing and hopefully win some medals in the process.

“To have the support of Mars® Refuel is enormously encouraging. The fact that I can stock up my energy levels on chocolate milk is an added bonus!”

Michelle Frost at Mars® Refuel is really excited about the recent sponsorship; “Tim is a truly inspirational young man, who has overcome a tremendous hurdle in order to pursue the sport he loves.

“Mars® Refuel is proud to be sponsoring a paraplegic athlete. Recent studies have shown that chocolate milk can help to aid recovery after strenuous exercise,* therefore it seemed appropriate that Mars® Refuel would support an individual who requires huge amounts of stamina and a need to give his body that extra boost.”

2007 will see Tim competing in the Europa Cup in Italy, and the NorAm alpine skiing competition for skiers with disability in Canada.
