Training Tips
Tim's Training Tips
Make it fun!
Mix training for competitions with some fun sporting activity. Try not to forget that sport is something to enjoy.
Push Yourself.
Turn challenges into a positive experience by setting small, achievable goals. For some, these goals will be winning a number of races leading up to an international competition. For others, these goals will be adding an extra 1km a week to their run.
Don’t make excuses.
Wasting time avoiding sport will only set you back. Get out there and try some new things and you will find a sport you enjoy.
Find a training buddy.
This will provide extra motivation to turn up and try your best.
Be prepared.
Know what is expected of you when you are training or competing. If you need advice or help, then ask rather than risking injury.
Stay focused and relaxed.
Nerves are a good thing when they are turned into positive, focused energy.
Visualise greatness.
Imagine the perfect race, game or training session. By visualising the positive, negative thoughts that could cause distraction are less likely to creep in.
Warm down and stretch.
The warm down is as important as the training session itself – if you don’t warm down properly then your hard work could go to waste!
Stay positive and focus on the big picture.
Don’t let minor setbacks get you down – get back out there and direct your energy towards another goal.
Rest!
Your body needs to rest between training sessions. Always schedule in rest and recovery time.
