Training Tips

Helen JenkinsHelen's Training Tips

Set yourself goals and targets
It has got to be realistic though! That might mean you have a few smaller targets to reach on a weekly basis, which in turn will help you achieve your ultimate goal.

Vary your training
One of the plus points of triathlon is it has 3 disciplines, swim, bike and run. I also do a lot of core strength and gym work, so two days are hardly ever the same and there is lots of variety in my training.

Listen to your body
Sometimes, when you trying to fit all your work and family commitments in, an early night after a healthy supper is better than trying to fit in another visit to the gym.

Have a massage
If you have been working your muscles hard, treat them to a massage. It may hurt when you are having it but you will feel much fresher the next time you work out!

Get the correct fitting kit
Whether it is buying new trainers or a bike, make sure you get good advice and you get the correct size for YOU. That also applies to using gym equipment – get an instructor to make the necessary adjustments to prevent any incorrect stresses on your body.

Recover properly
A bottle of Mars Refuel after you have finished your training session gives you all you need to recover and be fresh for your next session. It works for me!
